German power prices fell by around 10% in the past week, driving coal and gas margins deeply into the red, however coal was well ahead of gas in the merit order. German day ahead power prices dropped to as low at EUR58.00/MWh this week, from record highs of more than EUR100.00/MWh around 10 August, with gas and coal fired generation margins to their lowest since May.
