Glass-ionomer cements (GIC) are frequently used as a restorative material due to their ability to bond to enamel and dentine and release fluoride over time. Unfortunately these materials do have some limitations due to their comparatively lower strength and surface hardness. It is claimed a new surface protective coating (G-Coat Plus; GC Asia Dental Pty. Ltd.) placed over the glass ionomer may strengthen, protect and enhance the final restoration when compared to the use of conventional surface coatings.
