Uganda President Yoweri Museveni shone a spotlight on the way Africa's old guard seems to view younger generations these days during a ceremony earlier this month to celebrate the final investment decision on TotalEn-ergies' huge East African oil project. He also took a direct pot shot at non-governmental organisations and environmental campaigners, while also seeming to criticise Robert Ssentamu - aka Bobi Wine - his main opponent during last year's presidential election. The 77-year-old Museveni -who has been head of state since 1986 after a trajectory that included helping overthrow Uganda's brutal dictator Idi Amin in 1979 and waging a five-year bush war against former presidents Milton Obote and Tito Okeilo - won the 2021 election amid allegations of fraud, with the much younger musician-turned- politician Ssentamu running him close.
