Two field experiments were conducted at the Experimental Farm of Sohag, South Valley University, Egypt, during 2003 and 2004 to investigate the effects of phosphorus (22.5, 30.0, 37.5 and 45 kg P2O5/fed) and potassium (50, 75 and 100 kg K2O/fed) fertilizers on the growth, yield and quality of two okra cultivars (El-Balady and Golden Coast). The weight of green fruits (t/fed), weight of seeds per fruit (g), 100-seed weight (g) and total seed yield (kg/fed) of El-Balady was significantly increased compared with Golden Coast in both seasons. However, Golden Coast gave higher values for plant height, protein percentage and lower values for crude fibre percentage. Applying high levels, i.e. 37.5 and 45 kg P2O5/fed, of phosphorus significantly improved the most studied characters. Also, potassium fertilizer significantly increased all studied characters. The highest values were produced by the highest potassium level (100 kg K2O/fed) in both seasons. Interactions between cultivars x phosphorus, cultivars x potassium and phosphorus x potassium were significantly improved in most of the studied characters. Moreover, the interaction El-Balady x 37.5 kg P2O5/fed x 100 kg K2O/fed recorded the highest number of green fruits per plant, weight of green fruits (t/fed), 100-seed weight and weight of total seed yield (kg/fed) in both seasons. The interaction Golden Coast x 37.5 kg P2O5/fed x 100 kg K2O/fed gave the best results for quality characters in both seasons. [1 feddan=0.42 ha]..
