AKT answer relating to management of hot joints

The clinical picture is suggestive of septic arthritis. Any patient presenting with signs of sepsis, such as fever, tachycardia or hypotension, or a red, hot joint with limited range of movement, should be sent for same day orthopaedic assessment. Joint aspiration is the gold standard for investigation of suspected septic arthritis, but antibiotic treatment should not be delayed for investigation.
