Chinese coal market pushes for import controls

Chinese coal market stakeholders are pushing for tighter controls on the volume and quality of imported coal, in an attempt to balance the country’s coal market. A roundtable among stakeholders, which are made up of members of China’s ministry of coal, the China Coal Industry Association, major domestic coal producers and a coal hauling company was conducted on 28 June to discuss the coal market and economy during the first half of 2023.
