? 2022 Elsevier B.V.A novel, simple, fast, inexpensive and highly reproducible seed-growth synthesis of gold nano-dogbones (Au-NDBs) with high shape homogeneity and narrow size distribution (length 71.4 ± 6.5 nm) is reported. The use of CTAB supplemented with Cl- and Ag+ ions promoted the concave surface formation. Au-NDBs features (plasmon bands at 524 and 721 nm) made them good candidates for SERS applications and were evaluated in the detection of low concentrations of 4-aminothiophenol (Limit of detection 2.25 × 10–11 M and relative standard deviation lower than 20 %).
