A pot experiment was conducted to study the effects of N source (calcium nitrate, ammonium chloride, and ammonium nitrate at 300 mg per pot) and Cu rate (0, 10, 15, and 20 mg Cu per pot as copper sulfate) on barley cv. Giza 124. Among N sources, calcium nitrate was most effective in increasing ear and shoot dry matter yield, N and Cu uptake, and protein content. Dry matter yield increased with Cu up to 10 mg per pot, but decreased at higher Cu rates. Increasing Cu level reduced N content and uptakeas well as soil available N, but increased Cu content and uptake. N applied as calcium nitrate with 10 mg Cu per pot gave the highest yield and protein content.
