Russian coal prices increased in the Asia-Pacifc region this week because of tightening supply and higher demand from South Korea, market participants said. Russian NAR 6,000 kcal/kg prices in Asia-Pacifc increased by $1.18/t from the previous week to $186.43/t fob Vostochny. Russian exporters have been keeping prices high due to a tight supply of cargoes from Russian far eastern ports. A thermal coal producer from the Siberian region of Khakassia reported that it couldn’t get approval from Russian Railways (RZD) to deliver any rail cargoes to far eastern ports this month, while only 10pc of applied volumes for export through border cross-ings to China were confrmed. Most large producers said they are sold out of all volumes destined for exports through far eastern ports for the coming months. A large producer is keep-ing some supplies of high-calorifc value (CV) coal available for prompt loading from Russia’s eastern ports, ofering the tonnage at $210/t cfr Taiwan and at $205/t cfr with delivery to Philippines, a trader in Asia said.
