Nursing home care - we only have ourselves to blame.

Two recent communications to me raised my interest in the issue of dental care in aged care facilities. The first was a press release from the British Dental Association's (BDA) salaried dentist committee under the title 'No smiles for care homes health system'. In this document it was highlighted that the elderly in nursing home care often have very special dental care needs. While this is not a particularly startling revelation, the call from the BDA that a residential oral care programme be implemented nationwide is surprising. Are we to understand that in the new millennium such programmes do not exist?
