Timing of enclosing date bunches in plastic bags as key factor affecting infestations of Virachola vivia and Cadra spp. in new valley governorate, Egypt

In the New Valley, Virachola livia (Klug) and two species of Cadra are considred the most important late pests of dale fruits affecting yield and exportation quality. Trials were caerried out in Kharga and Dakhla Oasis in three locations with three timing of bagging date bunches. Results revealed that the early timing (1st of July) of coverage dale bunches showed the lowest infestation with V. livia and Cadra spp. and / or the greatest reduction percent in both seasons. Also, 2 ml hole bag was better than 1 ml hole bag. The second timing of (Mid of July) was far better than 3rd timing (1st of August). We can rcommend that the bagging "Tazmit" must be in the early timing of the season as 1st of July. this method can protect the yield, save the cost of using insecticides and and the pollution or mammalian toxicity.
