Welcome to this special supplement of the Australian Dental Journal titled 'Latest trends and developments in dental materials'. As for our past special supplements, this volume has been assembled with the general dental practitioner in mind but a special intent to provide a current update on dental materials for the dental profession as a whole. Dental materials is arguably the largest research area in dentistry and thus the amount of new research is overwhelming.
