A career leap from mining to cheesemaking might seem improbable, particularly in Western Australia, where the move is usually the other way, but not for Graeme Laird, the owner and cheesemaker at Geographe Cheese Co. in Busselton. A chemical engineerby trade, Mr Laird left Melbourne for WA in the early 1990s looking for a job in the mining industry. Instead, he took a job at a dairy processing plant and quickly felt at home in the industry.
