ASIMPLE routine involving tail tapes, heat detectors and weekly computer printouts is giving Charlie and Elizabeth Maier the upper hand in optimising the fertility of their year-round calving herd. The Maiers dairy is at Millaa Millaa on the AthertonTablelands. The herd's 80-day submission rate during the past year has been 75%, reaching InCalf's target for year-round calving herds. "We have a weekly routine to identify and monitor cows which is made simple with a weekly computer list, which identifies which cows we need to pay attention to," Mr Maier said.
