Maj Prins started his career in the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) in 2000. After completing the officer training in Breda, he continued his pilot training in the United States. He was initially assigned to 300 Squadron in 2007, to continue his career as a pilot on the Eurocopter AS532U2 Cougar. In the four years with 300 Squadron, he was deployed to Afghanistan a number of times. Due to a new round of cutbacks within the RNLAF, whereby 300 Squadron would be disbanded, Major Prins switched to the AH-64D 'Apache' in 2011. Despite the political decision to keep the Cougar helicopters of 300 Squadron operational, Maj Prins had already transferred to 301 Squadron and fulfilled his dream to fly the Apache. Three years later, he took part in the deployment to Mali, Africa, where, together with the Chinooks of 298 Squadron, 301 Squadron took part in the Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali.
