Chemical plants have too high a potential for accidents such as fire, explosion and so on, because they retain a lot of hazardous materials. Therefore, the methodology of facility management, which is commonly used by minimizing the economical object, cannot be straightforwardly applied to chemical plants. From the aspect of safety, the facilities of chemical plants are managed by over-maintenance increasing the ratio of maintenance cost to production cost. In this study, we propose such a methodology of facility management for chemical plants that minimizes maintenance cost under the constraint of safety. Furthermore, we develop a system supporting a maintenance plan for pipelines.
