Falls from heights are the biggest killer on Australian construction sites. In 2003, 18 workers in Australia and New Zealand were killed as a result of falls from heights and many more suffered serious injuries. The construction industry also records the highest injury rate of falls in the workplace, with 22 falls per 10,000 workers in Victoria alone - almost six times the average rate for all industries combined, according to a report from the Victorian WorkCover Authority.
