Controlling repair part costs through supply chain management

If your healthcare technology management (HTM) department is like most, it is not totally dependent on full-service contracts— and the cost of repair parts accounts for a significant percentage of your expenses. Failure to manage repair expenses with the tried and true principles of supply chain management will leave you exposed to significant losses, operational inefficiencies, and degraded financial performance. The frequently used measure for savings in HTM is to compare your unit prices to the original equipment manufacturing (OEM) list. While that comparison does provide a benchmark, it doesn't provide any insight on real savings—a comparison of the cost you paid in the past and the cost you are paying today. Further, the OEM list is not static; it moves up nearly every year whether justified by marketplace economics or not.
