The proposal for Dock10 creates a significant urban landmark on the existing docklands skyline of Hamburg.Designed as a"floating dock,"the structure is a retrofit of an existing floating repair dock, intended to provide working shelter to construct and repair large boats and yachts of up to 250 m in length. Its deliberately functional form and appearance proudly assert its presence as a"working building within the industrial heart of Hamburg. The form of the archetypal shed comes from amplifying the functional requirements of each architectural element:4 walls and a roof. These demountable elements are balanced on a buoyant hull that can be raised and lowered into the Elbe River so that boats can be guided safely into the floating dock for repair.
