Major Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) and lithium-ion battery manufacturer BYD posted a rise in its June NEV output and sales. NEVs refer to battery-electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, and fuel-cell vehicles in China. BYD’s NEV output rose by 97pc and by 2.6pc from a year earlier and from May respectively to 252,657 units in June, including 1,359 commercial NEVs and 251,298 passenger NEVs. Among passenger NEVs, output of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) rose by 93pc from a year earlier to 126,908 in June, with production of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) more than doubling to 124,390 units.
