A new office tower will replace the former home of Advertiser Newspapers in Adelaide. The old building, on the corner of King William and Waymouth streets, has been demolished. This is a total redevelopment of the city block containing the GPO building and the former Advertiser site at a total cost of around 600 million dollars. It is the largest single development ever undertaken in the Adelaide CBD. Uses will include office, retail, entertainment, possible hotel and residential components. Stage 1 (143 million dollars) is currently underway and involves construction of a 21 storey, Premium Grade office building to be known as City Central Tower 1. The net lettable area of the building is 31,239 sqm, together with an associated Plaza and underground parking for 171 cars. Work is also starting on City Central Tower 2. Tower 2 will be next to the 21-storey Tower 1 project nearing completion in Waymouth St and should be completed by January, 2008.
