Close to Canning Town tube station, Newham's burgeoning biggest building, part of the three-block Manor Road Quarter development, is rapidly rising. Situated on the flight path for London City Airport and next to the busy A13 road and Docklands Light Railway (DLR), the project is far from simple. A working electricity pylon on site complicates operations further. "There are a few challenges," says Morgan Sindall's project director, Lee Askey, with some understatement. "You can see why it's one of the last plots to be developed in the area." Two miles from the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and its associated developments for the London 2012 Games, the area is still desirable for new construction; Bouygues UK is building the third phase of the £600m Hallsville Quarter scheme just over the road from Askey's project.
