Choosing the right electric motor to power your factory equipment can be tricky. There are many factors to consider - is the environment wet or dry? Are the materials used to clean the area corrosive? Are there HACCP issues to consider? Rod Julian, NSW sales manager for Lafert Electric Motors, helps navigate the motor maze. Motors and gearmotors used in dairy processing areas are primarily selected for either dry areas, such as packaging or powder processing, or wet areas, such as the manufacturing floor. These are entirely different environments, with very different demands. When discussing all of them, we assume we are dealing with safe areas, free from hazard from combustible gas or liquids.
