Since January 1998, there had been more than 1000 mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and alliances set up in the global dairy sector, according to Tim Hunt, a senior analyst with the Food and Agribusiness team at Rabobank. Mr Hunt said that was anenormous amount of activity to occur in one sector and the pace of consolidation appeared to be accelerating, with around 230 deals having been done in the past couple of years.
