AERO VODOCHODY'S second L-39NG pre-series aircraft took flight again on January 6, having been out of commission for nearly 12 months while it underwent avionics and ergonomic improvements. The flight with factory test pilots Vytautas Pozela and Vladimir Tovarek onboard lasted around 50 minutes. The upgrades, including shortening the control stick and moving the forward console closer to the pilot, were introduced following feedback from aircrew and potential customers. Since making its first flight on December 9, 2019, the aircraft had flown for nearly 18 months in primer colour scheme, but is now sporting a new grey scheme. After the successful bedding down of the improvements, the aircraft will join the flight test programme, while the prototype 7001 (0475) is now being converted into a light attack aircraft.
