The volumetric production platform captures performers and props as 3D data and generates images in virtual space. It enables novel video expression and is expected to contribute to the improvement of production efficiency, for instance, by allowing changes to the viewpoint and subject placement at a later stage. In addition to the 3D shape, NHK STRL "Meta Studio" captures surface light field and optical properties of the surface, which cannot be achieved using conventional volumetric studios. Meta Studio, capable of providing accessible viewpoints and lighting, affords a realistic, immersive media (AR/VR, 3D) experience. This talk presents the principles of acquiring spatial/optical information in Meta Studio, examples of available video expressions, and prospective workflows for producing 2D, 3D and AR/VR contents.
