A US Air Force (USAF) F-15E Strike Eagle assigned to the 48th Fighter Wing (FW) at RAF Lakenheath, Suffolk, shot down an unknown unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) over eastern Syrian city of Deir Ez-Zor on August 21 after it was deemed a threat to US personnel in the area.According to Pentagon sources, the drone was Iranian. Since 2017, Iranian drones, operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its proxies in Syria, have posed a threat to coalition forces involved in the anti-Daesh mission known as Operation Inherent Resolve. According to local sources, the drone is believed to have been an IRGCQF-operated Mohajer-6 - one of six used for intelligence-gathering and air interdiction operations.
