The world's production capacity for synthetic fibers is forecast to increase to 64 million ton/year in 2014 from 51.3 million tons in 2009. The forecast of the production capacities of selected items is that the capacities for acrylic staple fiber and nylon filament yarn are to remain at 2.6 million tons and 5 million tons respectively in 2014. Meanwhile, the capacity for polyester staple fiber is projected to increase from 16.8 million tons in 2009 to 21 million tons, along with that for polyester filament yarn from 25.7 million to 34.2 million tons.
