The Indian textile industry is expected to attract investments of Rs 1,506 billion by the end of 11th Five-Year Plan and generate employment opportunities for a 17.35 million people. Investments in textiles have picked up, and it is estimated that investments in the textile and apparel industries between fiscal 2003 and 2007 amounted to around Rs 725,420 million. The growth of these industries has accelerated to 9-10% per annum, and is expected to rise to 16% in coming years. Thirty integrated textile parks would be set up by 2008 with investments of Rs 157 billion. These parks would generate an annual production of Rs 236 billion, and create half a million new jobs.
