The towel producing district in Yunlin county suffered serious damage by massive imports of Chinese-made towels;however,the district came to life because the Taiwanese Ministry of Finance imposed anti-dumping duties from 107.3% to 237.7% on Chinese-made towels,effective June 1,2006,in addition to the existing import tariff of 10,.5%.According to the Yunlin County Towel Industry Technology and Development Association,the towel producing district in Yunlin County was absolutely quiet and almost dying until the end of May.The Taiwanese government has finally put in serious efforts to tackle the problem and decided to impose anti-dumping duties on Chinese-made towels as a result of strong appeals through protest activities on the part of members of the Taiwanese national assembly,the mass media and the industry.
