Long time of measurement is a common disadvantage of most contemporary medical thermometers including digital thermometers based on conductive thermal exchange with the object of measurement. Specificity of a living organism as an object of temperature monitoring makes it difficult to solve this problem [1]. Let us consider modern approaches to solution of this problem. The first is the use of contactless temperature sensors. An infrared radiation (IR) sensor is most frequently used. Digital IR thermometers are available from many foreign manufacturers. Ear digital IR thermometer TEM-004 is available from OMRON (Japan). The measuring time of this thermometer is 1 sec. The ThermoTek 820 thermometer available from SAAT (Israel) measures temperature at the patient's forehead. Based on the temperature of the patient's forehead, the thermometer calculates and indicates the patient's intraoral temperature. Disadvantages of IR thermometers are relatively high cost and low accuracy. There are models of conductive digital thermometers providing relatively short measuring time. The ThermoTek 0482 thermometer available from SAAT provides relatively short measuring time. This thermometer meets the requirements of standard ASTM El 112-98 of accuracy (+-0.1 deg) and measuring time (10 sec). The temperature sensor of this thermometer is thermistor placed at the tip of long holder that decreases heat exchange with the environment.
