Textile Margins Under Pressure

Because of the continued disruption in the production of cotton fabrics in the decentarlized power-loom sector, the off-take of cotton yarn is quite sluggish. This has resulted in most of the cotton spinners cutitng their prices not only in the domestic market but also for exports. On the other hand, the prices of raw cotton have firmed up once again. Thus, after earning good profits in fiscal 2002-03, the cotton textile industry is now preparing for a relatively tough year.
