INDIA'S Essar Group plans to set up a £1 billion ($1.34 billion) UK hydrogen production hub. The company, led by billionaire Prashant Ruia, said it has formed Vertex Hydrogen, "a transformative new joint venture, with Progressive Energy, to build the UK's largest hydrogen hub" at the Stanlow manufacturing complex. The facility will produce 1GW per year of hydrogen, across two units, from 2026. "Led by Essar as the majority shareholder, Vertex Hydrogen has been formed to provide the catalyst for the development of a hydrogen economy across northwest England and north Wales, as a central part of the HyNet decar-bonisation cluster," it said.
