First-Half FY2005 Settlements of Accounts

Major Japanese textile firms and trading firms posted their interim settlements of accounts(April-September 2005)for the fiscal year 2005 closing in March 2006.Although the impact of soaring raw material and fuel costs resulting from crude oil prices was the matter of concern,each of seven Japanese synthetic fiber producers absorbed higher costs and maintained the higher profit trend on the operating profit level in terms of the whole company basis.Nevertheless,in terms of their fiber Ai' textile business,a shift of higher costs to product prices was not sufficient due to the sluggishness in consumption and many firms suffered from the worsening of profits.
