Production of cotton yarn declined by 2% in the period April 2002 to February 2003, to 1,987 milion kg. Considering that there was considerable disruption in production in March 2003 because of a general strike in protest against new taxation measures ammounced by the governent on February 28, 2003, chances are that the fiscal year ending in March 2003 saw some decline in the production of cotton yarn.
