According to the Spinners & Weavers Association of Korea,the number of spinning spindles of members' spinners decreased from 3.6 million in 1990 to 1.67 million at the end of 2003.An increase in imports of commodity cotton textiles and the relocation of production equipment to other countries have led to the reduction in spinning equipment.The monetary crisis that hit the country in 1997-98 accelerated such reduction.
