摘要

THE world is set to add as much renewable power in the next five years as it did in the past 20 as countries seek to strengthen their energy security in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and simultaneously limit global warming, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). As nations turn to renewables such as wind and solar to reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels - prices of which have spiked dramatically - global renewable power capacity is expected to grow by 2.4 terawatts from 2022 to 2027. This is equal to the entire capacity of China today, the IEA's Renewables 2022 report says. The increase is 30% higher than the amount of growth expected just a year ago, showing how governments have rapidly changed policies to reach a faster expansion of renewables, which now are envisaged to overtake ' coal to become the largest source of global electricity by 2025. "Renewables were already expanding quickly, but the global energy crisis has kicked them into an extraordinary new phase of even faster growth as countries seek to capitalise on their energy security benefits," IEA executive director Fatih Birol said. "The world is set to add as much renewable power in the next five years as it did in the previous 20 years.
