Manganese ore and alloy prices have seen across-the-board declines over the past month, even in China, where it was expected that the lifting of Covid-19 related restrictions would have a positive impact. However, despite a sharp recovery in manufacturing activity in the first quarter, China’s national bureau of statistics (NBS) recently reported that the country’s manufacturing purchasing managers’ index dropped into contractionary territory in April with a reading of 49.2 points, suggesting that the pace of recovery may be slowing at present.
