Bangkok-SCG Chemicals and Braskem are planning to jointly develop a new bio-ethylene project in Map Ta Phut, Rayong, Thailand, according to the Bangkok Post. The two companies will form a joint venture to build the facility, which will have a production capacity of 200,000 t/y of bio-ethylene utilizing plants as feedstock. Production is scheduled to begin in 2025. In 2021, SCG Chemicals and Braskem signed a memorandum of understanding to study the feasibility of a joint investment in a new bio-ethanol dehydration facility for the production of bio-ethylene and bio-based polyethylene (PE) in Map Ta Phut (PCN, 13 Sept 2021, p 1).
