Shell Experiences Fire in Olefins Unit Of Its Deer Park Chemicals Facility

Houston—Shell said a fire broke out on 5 May 2023 in its Olefins 3 (OP3) unit at the Deer Park Chemicals facility in Texas, while undergoing routine maintenance. The fire, which started around 3:00 pm CST, ignited heavy gas oil, cracked light gas oil and gasoline. It was initially extinguished on 6 May 2023, but restarted later that afternoon, igniting the remaining product. On 7 May 2023, the fire was completely extinguished. Cause of the fire will be the subject of a future investigation.
