The July 2022 issue of Water Well Journal focuses on green technology, a topic that is the subject of the cover story and a Q&A-style interview. In the cover story, "Plastic Piping Materials for Geothermal Applications" on page 20, author Lance MacNevin, P.Eng., covers the three types of plastic piping materials approved for geothermal ground loops as geothermal is increasing quickly in popularity as homeowners, governments, businesses, and universities are turning to technology to save on heating and cooling costs. The three types of plastic piping materials are HDPE, PEX, and PE-RT. Each delivers long-term reliability proven over decades of use around the world. MacNevin, the director of engineering for the Building & Construction Division at the Plastics Pipe Institute, provides details on each of these, explains their strengths, and how to install and work with the materials.
