Technical textiles represent a ray of hope for the textile sector worldwide thanks to their high potential for innovation and wide range of end uses. The figures confirm this trend; the British consultancy firm, David Rigby Associates, estimates that the world's maket for technical textiles easily stood at USus72 billion in 2000, an increase of 44% compared to 1995. An average growth in value of 3.8% per annum has been forecast for the period covering 1995 to 2005, while the growth in volume has been put at 3.9%. Since 1999, technical textiles have accounted for the largest share of output in the textile industry in Germany, at a figure of 39%, compared to 31% for home and household textiles and 30% for apparel.
