A leaky hydrocracker caused a fire on 3 March at Citgo’s 157,500 b/d refinery in Corpus Christi, Texas. Emergency flaring began at 3:45pm ET and ended by 5:15pm ET, according to a notice filed by Citgo with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Hydrocrackers use hydrogen and pressure to produce gasoline and distillates from heavier vacuum gasoil. The refinery also reported increased flaring in the east plant of the facility on 3 March at 4:50pm ET to a community alert system, without identifying the unit or units involved.
