CONNECTING THE BEE AND POLLINATION INDUSTRIES: Development of an Alliance Between Honeybee Industry and Industries Dependent on Honeybee Pollination

A key development in both ensuring the survival of the honeybee industry and also in making growers more aware of the role played by honeybees in pollination of crops and pastures in Australia has been taking place this year. Following on from the Parliamentary Inquiry into Rural Skills and Training, representatives from both AHBIC and the HBRDC had separate meetings with the Minister for Agriculture Peter McGauran. The Minister subsequently made funding available for HBRDC, through RIRDC, to host anIndustries Linkages Workshop in Canberra in April. This 2-day Workshop pulled together around 75 delegates from the honeybee industry, horticulture, pasture seeds and grains industries, research and development providers, state and commonwealth representatives and university research centres.
