Returning to one's home region after forced migration rarely puts an end to displacement challenges. Some of the biggest hurdles, especially after prolonged absences, are securing land tenure and accessing housing in suitable locations. Since former homes and villages are often radically changed, occupied by new owners, or simply no longer exist, governments and aid organisations often incentivise and manage returns of displaced populations by building new towns.
