Tugboats assist large vessels to dock and leave harbors, and the rope that tugboats use to tow the large vessels is called tug rope. Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fiber is used for this rope. Formerly, polypropylene, nylon and other general-purpose fibers were used, but in order to achieve the necessary strength as a tug rope, the rope became thick and heavy, and thus was difficult to handle.
