Simply put, better genetics make better beef. In order to preserve the positive qualities of a beef breed, for example the Angus breed, raising purebred animals preserves the genetic lines. Purebred Angus cattle are the favorite beef breed in North America and have the distinction of being the largest purebred industry in the world and with good reason. The purebred Angus animal has many desirable traits which are sought after by beef breeders around the world. One of the major positive traits of theAngus breed is that they are naturally polled. Polled animals result in fewer feedlot injuries and show a greatly reduced number of injuries during calving. Their sound feet and legs also put them at lower risk for injury when housed with large herds. This leads into the fact that purebred Angus cows make superb mothers. Angus heifers mature early and have high fertility rates. They calf with ease, have excellent maternal instincts, and superb milking quality. They consistently produce vigorous live calves of great quality.
