Helping cow-calf producers: The New York Feedlot and Carcass Value Discovery Program

According to the 1991 National Beef Quality Audit (NBQA 1991) quality defects in U.S.-fed cattle cost the industry nearly $280 per head. The largest proportion of these losses was due to excessive fat, heavy carcasses, inappropriate USD A quality grade mix, and low overall cut-ability. The results of the second NBQA conducted in 1995 indicated that not much had changed.
