Native to Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, north into the upper Midwest.Botanical InformationFirst described by C.K.Schneider in his illustrated handbook published in 1909 which was based upon an earlier work by C. Rafinesque in the first part of the 19th century. Maclura pomifera is a deciduous tree of the Moraceae (Mulberry) family growing to40 feet with specimens known as tall as 60 feet. The bark is furrowed, orange brown and scaly in appearance. The leaves are alternate, simple, ovate, 2-5 inches long and 1-3 inches wide.
