摘要

Tom Ernst says his Christmas tree storage area is a valuable asset. It's just a clearing sheltered by some big pines in the woodlot near Mahone Bay, N.S., but it serves an important purpose in protecting harvested trees from snow, wind, and sun untilthey are loaded. On a balmy Saturday this past September, the clearing also served as an idyllic reception area and picnic site for the field day recognizing Ernst as the 2006 Woodlot Owner of the Year for the Western Region of Nova Scotia. He proudly welcomed and thanked his 100 or so guests, clearly pleased that a noted feature of the woodlot could serve both practical and social functions.
